AASU Presents: Mark Tran

The director, Mark Tran, caused a sensation at the 2009 Cinequest Film Festival when he won the Audience Award for Best Feature. Widely considered the most promising filmmaker out of the Bay Area, Mark directed the film at the age of 22 on a shoe-string budget. During the film’s premiere at the festival, every showing was sold out with an overcapacity crowd celebrating inside the lobby and outside the theater, forcing the festival directors to call in security. We will show the movie before and have a discussion afterwards. So come out for this wonderful experience.

Time: Tuesday: February 16th, 2010 – 7:00PM to 8:00PM.
Location: Reitz Auditorium.

AASU Presents: Norman Ng

We had a wonderful turnout for our first speaker of our Speaker Series! Norman Ng impressed us with all of us his tricks as well as made us all laugh. Come out to see all of our other speakers coming up!

Project Mascot

If you didn’t know, Project Mascot is a service organization that deals with assigning mentors at an “at-risk” school. These elementary schools are identified yearly and as an organization, Project Mascot attacks by sending mentors in and having one mentor per one mentee in the hopes that it will have a positive impact on that child’s life.

In addition to mentoring, Project Mascot takes the mentees to Sea World. These children come from a generally lower income household, so we raise all the money to take these kids to Orlando, in hopes that the rewarding of a year of work will help motivate them for the immediate and distance future.

Because we take on the whole responsibility of payment for the trip, we need YOUR help. On February 17th (Thursday), we’re having an all-you-can eat hotdog dinner. Tickets are only 5 dollars! There are also drinks and dessert and the whole meal has vegetarian options. Please, please, please come out and help us help these kids! Tickets must be sold through me unfortunately, but I’m willing to meet up whenever, wherever. Tell your friends, roommates, significant others! Cheap food and a good cause are always a great combination.
